Summer Jobs For 15 Year Olds

There are several types of summer jobs for 15 year olds but there are a couple that really stand out.  Employment as a Camp Counselor or Lifeguard is a terrific and fun way to earn a wage while mastering new skills.   Teens that do a good job are normally invited back for the next season.

The key to finding the best jobs for teenagers is to be flexible.    An interesting opportunity is to become a Camp Counselor or Camp Counselor in Training (CIT).   Check with the local YMCA or church groups to find camps operated by people in your community.

The best way to obtain a position at a summer camp or lifeguard posting is to plan ahead.   Get a job description and application during the school year.   Make certain you meet the entire prerequisite for the post.   Check carefully for extra skills that are not required but are listed as desirable.

Lifeguard training and certification is normally available in your community during the winter months.  The classes can be accomplished after school or on weekends.   This might be a great time to take some small watercraft safety courses too.

Lifeguards that have completed courses in teaching young children to swim have an advantage also.   It is a path to additional summer income.   Kids and parents that know you from your Lifeguard duties will feel more comfortable having you teach their kids new swimming skills.

Camp Counselor is another job where thinking and planning in the winter can set you up for a successful application.   Use the winter months to take first aid courses, get your CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification, and more.

Use your computer or visit the local library to find out more about the camp and its traditions.  If you know the popular campfire songs and stories before your interview it will be a real bonus.  Showing that you are up to speed on the plants and animals at the camp location is a big plus.

These research efforts will allow you to impress the interviewer.   They will see you as one of the best prepared teenagers they have ever encountered.  Remember that they may interview several teens for every opening and they may all meet the basic requirements.

That is why you must take steps to set yourself apart from that crowded group of applicants.  These are two of the best summer jobs for 15 year olds and every camp and beach traditionally wants their most valuable counselors and lifeguards to return.
